For the past thirty years, different studies by scientists and doctors worldwide have shown that the inhabitants of Mediterranean countries suffer less heart attacks and have a lower death rate from cancer. These same studies have demonstrated that the type of food common to all five nations plays a vital role in the prevention of and fight against these diseases. Thus has arisen the concept of the Mediterranean diet, which has come to be seen as synonymous with health. The Mediterranean diet is based on a combination of foods and lifestyle related to Mediterranean culture. It corresponds not to geography, but to a shared ancestry reflected in the type of food people from this part of the world eat.The diet?s primary components include pasta, mainly made from wheat, abundant green vegetables and pulses. Fruit, olive oil (?Spanish gold?) and fish are also used, while meat, especially of the red variety, is less common. All of the above are frequently seasoned with spices and herbs like garlic, oregano, thyme, rosemary and pepper and washed down with good wine, though always in moderation.

22 year old defender of the Sevilla FC soccer club, died yesterday afternoon in the hospital Virgen del Rocio after collapsing on the field during the soccer match against Getafe in Seville.

The Sevillian soccer club, which was to play yesterday in Greece a game to qualify for the European championship league, cancelled their game and flew back the same night after receiving the tragic news of the death of one of their great, young players.

Other sports events have been also cancelled, such as the Santiago Bernabeu soccer trophy of Real Madrid scheduled for today in Madrid.

La Carte de Rencontre

La Carte de Rencontre

I created this rapid-use calling/meeting card for Parisiens in need of quick communication (and increasing the possibilities for romance) while yanking out or fighting over the last v?lo at the V?lib’ station. It’s one of my most insane efforts: Check out La Carte de Rencontre!

August 29th 2007

First sorry for the lack of updates. It’s been a very busy 3 weeks since my daughter was born. She just fell asleep after her 6am bottle, which gives me some time to update the site before I drift off into unconsciousness.

Doctors, August, and the ER. What do these three things have in common? Quite a bit actually.

At 8 days our daughter had diarrhea pretty bad, over 6 times a day. The next day it continued and we didn’t know if that was normal or not so we called our doctor. The message on her voice mail said she was on vacation and gave the name of another doctor who was filling in for her. So we called him, he wasn’t there (a secret vacation maybe?). So we called our family doctor, she’s on vacation. Ok, her usual replacement. She’s on vacation too. Darn. Look up pediatrician in the yellow pages. The other one in our town is on vacation.

Stadium Gods

The Rugby World Cup is fast approaching, beginning September 5 in Paris. What better way to commemorate your favorite francophone rugbyman or in this case rugbymen than with a 2008 calendar of your French Rugby players all naked!?? Does it merit the name,
