In Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Hippodrome de Longchamp, Paris, the Irish horse Authorized was the favourite. Jockey Lanfranco Dettori rode Authorized to won the Juddmonte International Stakes in York, England in August, among other key races in the UK. Pictured prior to the Arc, Dettori looks worried, as though sensing something’s not quite right with the horse. Authorized went on to a disappointing finish in the Arc.


French jockey Christophe Soumillon rode Mandesha in the Arc. The horse is owned by Princess Zahra Aga Khan and won L’Opera at last year’s Arc festivities.

Richard Hughes rode Youmzain, owned by Jabeer Abdullah, in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Zambezi Sun,owned by Khalid Abdullah was one of the punters’ favourites in the lead-up to the Arc race. He was ridden by Stephane Pasquier.

The German horse Getaway, owned by Baron Georg von Ullmann, was trained by respected French trainer Andre Fabre. He was ridden by Olivier Peslier.

Dragon Dancer, owned by J.L.C. Pearce, was ridden by Darryll-Paul Holland in the Arc.

Jockey Torsten Mundry rode Saddex, a British horse, in the race.

The American horse Sagara, owned by the Niarchos family, was ridden by French jockey Thierry Gillet.

Solider of Fortune, an Irish horse ridden by John-Patrick Murtagh, was also a punter’s favourite prior to the Arc.

The British horse Song of Hiawatha was ridden by David McCabe.

Jockey Patrick Smullen rode the Irish horse Yellowstone in the Arc.

Irish horse Dylan Thomas, ridden by Irish jockey Kieron Fallon, wins the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The horse was trained by Aidan O’Brien and is owned by Madame John Magnier and Michael Tabor.


Fallon riding Dylan Thomas home post-race. This week Fallon is standing trial in London on charges of fraud and fixing races in the UK.

The parade for the Arc winner begins. The horse owners, trainer and jockey were all recognised for their efforts, with prizes bestowed by the French Interior Minister Francois Fillon.
