I V Y Paris at the Louvre

I V Y paris is has once again been invited to organise a one-day exhibit at the Louvre on Sunday October 14, 2007. Our audience is 5000 people who are attending Expatica’s conference on living in Paris, “I’m Not A Tourist”.

The art show will take place in the open space at the entrance to the conference, an extension of the reception area of the Louvre museum, in an historic architectural area revealing the city’s 14th-century ramparts. It was these historical elements that influenced the choice of materials in the foyer (Burgundy stone, white architectural concrete).

This is the fifth of a series of five pieces written by artist Leau Phillips about her experiences at the New Mexico State Fair.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have met the underbelly of the arts and crafts events and lived to tell about it! It isn’t pretty, is isn’t easy, but it had to happen sooner or later. Met it, confronted it came out with all fingers and toes and ego intact.

I told you yesterday that we had decided to leave the fair a day early. Wasn’t an easy decision, didn’t come to it lightly, wrestled with those demons of “NOT fulfilling a commitment” It was a toss and turn night.

Blacksmiths, a momentary fright and rude remarks

Photo and art by Leau Phillips

This is the fourth of five pieces by artist Leau Philliips about her experiences at the New Mexico State Fair.

First folks, an update on my previous post. I neglected to mention that Friday night at the petting zoo is mostly for single dads and interestingly enough, first dates!! Nothing says “getting to know you” like jumping goats, a Brahma bull and the smell of manure. Last comment overheard as I left the area: “Wanna do the petting zoo?” “Dad, I’m 12…”

For the Sunday Scribblings prompt “My name is…”

My name is aspersion and I am tossed about all too frequently these days. If you dare to disagree with the current American government, it may be suggested you are unpatriotic. But true patriotism as envisioned by our forefathers involved questioning the government - not following blindly whatever direction we are led and doing whatever we are told, like sheep. The Constitution calls for a government by, of and for the people - not just a privileged few who care more about politics and making money than the country and its citizens.

More adventures at the state fair

This is the third in a series of four pieces by Leau Phillips at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque.

You must be on the edge of your seats waiting to find out the scoop about angry hot glass lady. But before I give you the rundown of the third day of the glorious New Mexico State Fair booth saga, please indulge me while I rant.

These things ARE NOT art - in my humble but adequate opinion:

Day two of fun at the fair

Photos by Leau Phillips

In the second of a four-part series, Leau Phillips writes about her observations on day two at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque:

Well boys and girls, today was a much shorter day, only 11 hours, but a much hotter day so I guess that evens it out. And we sold three things, so we doubled our sales!! Oh what I would have given for just a small amount of the cloud cover we had yesterday.

Ole Man River?.

Cruising along the Seine at sunset. It’s a clich?, I know. But it is pretty spectacular, if it’s

Ole Man River?.

done right. I have to admit that I’m a bit of a Paris Cruise Snob- all you have to do is take a peak at Les Bateaux Mouche with their blinding spotlights and obnoxious loudspeakers and you’d be as picky as me! The last thing I’d want to do (or suggest to my clients to do) is to spend valuable vacation time crammed aboard one of those monstrosities. That said, not ALL Paris cruise companies are bateaux mouches- just google it, and you’ll find pages upon pages of varying levels of Paris dinner cruises. My snobbishness almost got the best of me until last week when I was invited for lunch aboard the Mighty Mississip! (well, actually it’s just called the “Mississippi”, but I can’t stop saying Mighty Mississip!) The Mississippi is one of a fleet of riverboats offered by La Compagnie des Bateaux A Roue. I had seen these boats before, and had always thought that they would be sort of cheesy- I imagined candy-striped dixieland musicians and hot dogs, but nothing could have been farther from the truth.
