Cerro Campanario, You Gotta See This.

Sitting aboard my cozy LAN flight from Buenos Aires, I enjoyed some of Argentina’s famous chocolates, a nice cup of tea and anxiously awaited our arrival into Bariloche. With each turn of the engine my inner outdoorsman began to emerge and I could feel us approaching those beautiful Andes Mountains. When the wheels finally touched the runway I rushed out of the plane, eager to catch that first sight of the Andes and Lake Nahuel Huapi bordering Bariloche. One glance was inspiration enough to quickly get to a hostel, drop off my bags, and head out into the rugged outdoors.

I know, I know, travel around Thanksgiving and the December holidays is either….

1) already nailed down at your household, and reservations/tickets have been in hand for months, or

2) OMG, Thanksgiving is when?!

Look, it’s not too late; you can still be a family travel genius.

Two big exhibits are coming out today in Atlanta’s renowned High Museum: Inspiring Impressionism, a survey of Old Masters from Monet to Rubens, and The Louvre and the Ancient World, the second installment of the phenomenal partnership between the High and the Louvre.

The Impressionist exhibit lasts only until Jan. 13 but is still a great activity for your people when they’re having a free day, and the $12 (senior citizen) ticket price includes a free audio guide. The Louvre exhibit still has some time for planning, running through September 2008.

My Buenos Aires Tango Adventure

About a year ago my wife and I went to the movies to distract us from a difficult period in our lives. I had no way of knowing then that one day I would end up in a shoe shop in downtown Buenos Aires wearing a Carlos Gardel hat while strutting the tango snugly against various young Argentine women in tight clothes. And not just with my wife’s permission, but it was her brilliant idea in the first place.
