Once again, the Gracia street festival will be on in Barcelona from August 15 to 21, 2007.
If you are in Barcelona these days for holiday or business, you should visit this buzzing and always interesting district. Specially at night it is worthwhile a stroll, as there are many live concerts from Folk to Jazz.
Last year, more than 1 millon visitors attended the festival.
18 streets will compete for different awards, such as the nicest or most innovated decorated street. Residents of those streets will have prepared the decoration during many months.
Experience the spectacular correfoc (a dragon spying fire while running back and forth through the local streets at night, and surrounded by devils with drums and fireworks). Get dressed with old clothes and a cap or hat and do not get to close to the dragon, specially with kids and take care of your kids.

The fiesta kicks off when the thousands who come together in the streets of the village centre are hosed down and have buckets of water thrown over them by residents on their balconies above. Afterwards, several lorries carrying tonnes of tomatoes make their way onto the square to throw off their loads. Thus begins an intense battle of tomato and water. After it?s all over, residents spend an hour cleaning up all traces of the fight.
In recent years, La Tomatina has seen crowds of over 30,000 who have pelted each other with more than 100,000 kilos of tomatoes, which are squashed beforehand to avoid any injuries.

The Lucky Islands, the Elysian Fields, Hesperides Garden and Atlantis were some of the first names bestowed on the Canaries by Greek and Roman scribes. The archipelago is volcanic in origin and was originally inhabited by the guanches, a clear-skinned race which lived on the cliffs, in caves and in small circular houses. In 1496, after a series of battles, they were incorporated into the kingdom of Castile. Shortly afterwards, Colombus berthed his vessels there before departing for the New World.

The smell of the sea pervades the entire city, and its pleasant climate ensures an average mean temperature of 18°. As the writer Juan Gil-Albert says, ?Alicante ceaselessly watches over the Mediterranean?.At the heart of the city lies the avenue of Espa?a Esplanade, known in the last century as the pier or the Martyrs for Freedom. It was resurfaced in 1957 with marble and is flanked on both sides by palm trees, caf?s, ice cream stores and restaurants.
