Drive-by Shopping

I have met people here in Paris who rarely, if ever, take the bus. But I’ve become a bus convert. While the buses might be a bit overwhelming for a tourist who is just here for a short stay (in which case, grab a cab, take the M?tro, hoof it, or try the new V?libs), once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty simple. The first thing to do is to get a copy of a particular type of city plan (map), Le Petit Parisien “3 Plans Par Arrondissement” version, which offers three maps per arrondissement, one of which is the bus map through that neighborhood.

Old maps of Paris

Paris has undergone a lot of changes during the centuries : extensions, destructions, reconstructions, restructurations, speculations, ornementations, improvements… from the walls of Philippe August to the works of the present Mayor Bertrand Delano?, from Haussman (the boulevards) to Pompidou (Beaubourg) or Mitterrand (Pyramide du Louvre; Grande Biblioth?que…), all the centuries, all the kings and Presidents have left their signature.
