Today the UN Security Council issued its first-ever “Presidential Statement” on Burma. Such a statement is agreed by all members of the Security Council, including China and Russia, but is not a resolution and is not binding in any way.
“This is a first step, when what Burma needs is a concrete measure,” said Aung Din, former political prisoner and executive director of the US Campaign for Burma. “We hope the Council follows this move by implementing an arms embargo that stops countries from shipping weapons to this regime.”
In the statement, the Security Council “unanimously and strongly deplored the use of violence against peaceful demonstrations in Burma. The Security Council emphasized importance of the early release of all political prisoners and remaining detainees. It also called on the military regime to create conditions necessary for a genuine dialogue with Daw Aung san Suu Kyi, all concerned parties and ethnic groups, to achieve an inclusive national reconciliation.

Twice a year during fashion week, Didier Ludot, the most renowned vintage clothing shop in Paris, devotes the shop windows to an up-and-coming young designer. This season he chose the handsome and gifted Alexis Mabille (pictured), who showed off his talent with fantasy clothes, which included a shocking pink marabou, mini-dress flecked with sequins and an evening coat made of 650 rose-colored organza silk bows.

Travel to Hawaii is ramping up after recent rains have slowed bookings. The weather has cleared and sunshine has returned to the Islands!
Recently John Monahan, President and CEO of the Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) stated “We’re enjoying blue skies and the warm sunny climate that everyone expects when coming to Hawai’i.”[1]
Repeat travelers to Hawaii are on the rise, with more than 62% of visitors enjoying the sun and sand more than once. Today’s travelers are also more likely to be independent, and rely less on group and package tours. In 2000 just over 49% of travelers were independent explorers, while in 2005 that number rose to nearly 54%.[2]

Spread your wings while hang gliding, an exciting way to fly reserved for the most impulsive among us. You run along the mountain top, throw yourself off the edge and…you fly, reaching speeds of up to 12 miles per hour, similar to a bird. The feeling is one of freedom and pure euphoria, and the hang glider feels like an extension of your body. You?re securely fastened to it through your harness, while you also have a parachute on hand, just in case. Using your body and balance, you can fly in whichever direction you fancy, wind permitting. Depending on how it?s blowing, you?ll have to go one way or the other. Those who wish to try the sport must be reasonably fit, since to repeat your 30-60 seconds of flight, you must carry the 55lb hang glider back up to the top. One of the big advantages of hang gliding is that it can be done in almost every corner of Spain. If you?re fascinated by the legend of Icarus, why not sign up for some of the courses offered by different schools. Summer, naturally, is the best time of all.

Cauis, by Jean Marc Notelet, happens to be in the 17 arrondisement, but don’t let that hold you back. He came around at the same time as the band of bistronomique Frenchies but he took his deal a little further. You could say that the style of his cooking is French but after that who knows what it is. As he said it himself, he does “spice,” but not Mexican, nor pimentos, nor 5-alarm Indian. And he is hard-core into “spice,” in fact, his cheese cart has even found a second life as a spice rack. Expect exotic peppercorn-infused fruits and great products. He does very little shopping from Rungis and it shows.

An elaborate feathered headdress on an Italian bust Friday, opening day at 75th Foire Nationale aux Antiquites a la Brocante et aux Jambons at Chatou. Notice the vendor with his back to the camera chatting on his mobile phone. Particularly when it’s raining, there’s not much for vendors to do while waiting for customers.
