Last year I was designing an event for this couple from Texas who wanted to have a country rock band as entertainment. That’s how I discovered that France has a big thing for American Country & Western culture! WHO KNEW? There are tons of French country bands around with such names as Youpi Whaou or Les Prairie Dogs or Texas Sidestep- these bands have HUGE followings! At the forefront of it all is an email ‘zine called American Leisure Mag, which updates you on “All Things Country” going on in France. The latest issue has a big ole Budweiser Ad front and center (bien sur!), a video highlight of a Country Line Dance Compilation CD, the Texas Music Chart, and info on their annual Festival des Loisirs Am?ricains 2007 -Three Days in America, which is scheduled to take place the 28th-30th of September just outside of Paris. The Festivals’ website boasts Line Dancing competitions, an Indian Village, Marching Band, Electronic Bull, an American Leisure Salon (with over 150 American products for sale), an expo of American cars, trucks and Harley Davidsons…Oo! There will also be a D?ner Spectacle called Elvis In Las Vegas with a musical fireworks show called “Love Me Tender”. Yee HAW!! Wars my hat??
Info on this Franco-billy extravaganza seems to be trickling in, but if you just can’t wait ’til September to get your country fix, mosey on over to Country-France, the Gateway to Country Music in France to see what’s happening on the scene.
